Volunteers come in all shapes and sizes
If you want to know what a volunteer can look like just look in the mirror.
People volunteer for many reasons and with many organisations, with a view to giving something back to society. The level of commitment they are able to make will depend on their personal situation in respect of free time, availability and other demands on their time. No matter how much or how little time they able to give, both they and the organisation they volunteer for will definitely benefit from their generosity.
In these times of ever increasing costs, organisations, like the public, are having to watch every penny to ensure it is well spent. Alliston Gardens Youth and Community Centre is no different but we could do more for our community if a few volunteers came forward to help us.
Currently we urgently need a cover Keyholder to provide assistance to centre users when the centre manager is ill or on holiday. The person we are looking for would ideally be reliable and live locally with good communication skills. This position is to cover exceptional circumstances such as a group being unable to make entry, lock up on leaving or the fire alarm going off. We will ensure that full training is given in respect of our fire and security systems as well as a giving a small remuneration for any unplanned callouts.
We are also looking to re-introduce our Monthly Friday Lunch Club. To do this we need three volunteers willing to come and help from 10.30am to 1.30pm to help prepare the food, plate the meal, serve the meal and wash up after the meal. The meal is served to elderly members of the community who enjoy the company and a hot meal but it is too much for one individual to manage on their own. A meal would be provided for each volunteer free of charge as a thank you.
